The members of The National Coal Council are appointed by the Secretary of Energy for their knowledge, expertise, and stature in their respective fields of endeavour. They reflect a wide geographic area of the United States and a broad spectrum of diverse interests from business, industry and other groups.
The National Coal Council provides advice to the Secretary of Energy in the form of studies on subjects requested by the Secretary.

The NCC Chair’s Leadership Council (CLC), organized through NCC, Inc., is comprised of committed, knowledgeable individuals who serve in a management advisory capacity to the Council. The NCC leadership relies on CLC members for guidance and insights into opportunities for NCC to strengthen its programs, improve its management, and evaluate its mission and services.
